When Your Corgi Misbehaves, What Should You Actually Do?

Introducing the Corgi Behaviour Problem Solver

A free interactive tool that gives you the book's exact solution to your Corgi's most challenging behaviours — personalised, step-by-step, and available immediately.

You are standing in your kitchen, and your Corgi has just nipped the back of your child's ankle for the third time this week. Or you have returned home to find a cushion destroyed and a sheepish-looking dog who clearly knew exactly what he was doing. Or you are on a walk, and the moment you pass another dog your Corgi erupts into a barking, lunging performance that makes strangers cross the street.

You know the behaviour needs to change. What you may not know is precisely how to change it — and in what order, and why it is happening in the first place.
The Corgi Behaviour Problem Solver is our attempt to answer those questions directly, grounded in the frameworks of Corgi Chronicles: A Training Guide for Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis by Morgan Heeler-Davies.

The Book Behind the Tool

Corgi Chronicles opens its chapter on behavioural challenges with a statement that reframes everything: 'These behaviours — whether it is excessive barking, nipping, or herding — are not mere nuisances but windows into the mind of a complex and intelligent breed.'

That shift in perspective is the foundation of everything the Problem Solver offers. Rather than asking 'how do I stop this,' the book asks 'why is this happening, and what does it tell me about my Corgi's needs?' The answers lead to solutions that actually last, rather than surface-level fixes that suppress symptoms without addressing causes.

Corgi Chronicles identifies 20 of the most common training mistakes Corgi owners make, organised into ten categories. Many of these mistakes are counterintuitive — things that feel like the right response but consistently make the behaviour worse. The Problem Solver puts all of that directly in your hands.
"Addressing these challenges effectively requires a shift in perspective: instead of viewing them as problems to eliminate, we must see them as opportunities to deepen our understanding and build stronger connections with our Corgis." — Corgi Chronicles, Chapter 4

What the Tool Is

The Corgi Behaviour Problem Solver is a free, self-contained HTML tool — a single file you open in any browser on any device. There is no internet connection required after download, no account, no subscription, and no data collected.

Before you begin, the tool asks for four things: your name, your Corgi's name, age, and gender. From that point, every solution it offers is addressed directly to you and your dog — using your Corgi's name, the correct pronouns, and language tailored to where your dog is in life.

Every solution in the tool is drawn directly from Chapters 4 and 11 of Corgi Chronicles. The book's exact terminology, the 20 common mistakes framework, and the specific intervention strategies are all preserved in the tool's content.

How It Works
Step 1 — Choose a category

The main screen presents eight problem categories, each represented by an icon and a label: Excessive Barking, Nipping and Mouthing, Herding and Chasing, Leash Pulling, Separation Anxiety, Reactive and Aggressive Behaviour, Not Responding to Commands, and Stubbornness and Resistance.
These categories map directly to the most common presenting problems in Chapters 4 and 11 of Corgi Chronicles. Tap or click the one that matches what you are dealing with.

Step 2 — Select the specific problem

Each category opens a more specific list. Under Excessive Barking, for example, you can select from: Barks at the door and visitors, Barks at other dogs on walks, or Barks from boredom when alone. These distinctions matter enormously — the root cause and the solution differ significantly between them.

Step 3 — Read the solution

The tool immediately displays three things. First, an introduction that explains why this behaviour happens in a Corgi — drawing on the breed's herding heritage, intelligence, and specific instincts described in Corgi Chronicles. Second, a common mistake to avoid — drawn directly from the book's 20 mistakes framework, identifying what most owners do wrong and why it makes the behaviour worse. Third, a numbered five-step solution — the specific intervention protocol from Corgi Chronicles, presented in order.

Step 4 — Apply it with the whole household

Every solution concludes with a reminder that Corgi Chronicles returns to throughout: consistency across all family members is essential. One person applying a different approach undermines all the progress. The tool is designed to be shared — with partners, children, grandparents, or anyone else involved in your Corgi's daily life.

A Closer Look at Three Examples

Nipping at children

Many owners respond to heel nipping with punishment — a firm 'no,' a tap on the nose, or a raised voice. Corgi Chronicles identifies this as one of the most common and most damaging mistakes. The nipping is herding instinct expressing itself. Punishment without an alternative outlet creates frustration that finds a worse expression.

The tool's solution begins with this context, then walks through a specific redirect-and-reward protocol: teaching an incompatible behaviour, creating a legitimate outlet for the drive through structured games, and managing the environment until the redirect is reliable.
Reactive barking at other dogs

Corgi Chronicles Mistake 10 — Not Reading Stress Signals — is the key here. Reactive barking almost always has a stress-signal precursor: lip licking, whale eye, a stiff posture. Most owners miss these signals and intervene only after the explosion, which is too late. The tool explains how to identify the threshold distance, work just below it, and build the 'other dog = look at owner' reflex over time.

Not responding to commands outdoors

This is Corgi Chronicles Mistake 6 — Environmental Challenges Too Soon. The behaviour was never truly generalised; it was trained in one context and expected to transfer automatically to another. The 3D rule (Distance, Duration, Distraction — change only one at a time) from Chapter 3 provides the framework. The tool walks through the proofing sequence step by step.

The Benefits of Using This ToolCorgi-Behaviour-Problem-Solver

  • You get the right solution for the specific problem, not generic dog training advice. The distinction between barking from boredom and barking from anxiety, or between herding and aggression, produces completely different solutions.
  • You understand why before you address how, which makes you a more effective trainer and a more empathetic owner. Corgi Chronicles: 'Understanding these behaviors at their core allows us to respond with empathy, transforming frustration into growth.'
  • You avoid the most common mistakes before making them. Each solution leads with the Corgi Chronicles mistake most likely to make this behaviour worse. That alone is worth the download.
  • You have something shareable. Upload the tool to your website and every puppy owner who leaves your kennel has access to expert guidance at the moment they need it most — which is typically 2am on a Tuesday when the puppy has destroyed something.
  • The tool grows with your Corgi. The problems relevant at 10 weeks are different from those at 10 months or 3 years. The tool covers the full spectrum.

An Honest Counterpoint

No tool replaces professional guidance for serious behavioural issues. The Problem Solver is designed for the common, correctable challenges every Corgi owner encounters — the barking, the pulling, the herding, the selective hearing. For dogs showing genuine aggression toward people, severe separation anxiety, or behaviours that have escalated beyond what positive owner intervention can address, a qualified trainer or behaviourist is the right resource.

Corgi Chronicles itself is explicit on this point. The book's framework is built on positive reinforcement and compassionate understanding — but it also acknowledges that some situations require professional support, particularly where safety is involved.

The tool is also only as effective as the consistency of the person using it. Five excellent steps applied once will not resolve a behaviour that has been reinforced for months. What the tool gives you is the right direction; the sustained, consistent effort is yours to supply.

And finally — Corgis are individuals. Corgi Chronicles says it clearly: 'Not all strategies work universally. Adjust methods to suit your Corgi's unique personality and needs.' The tool provides the framework; your observation and adaptability make it work for your specific dog.
