Do You Really Know Your Corgi? Take the Corgi Chronicles Self-Assessment and Find OutThe self-assessment is a 10-chapter multiple choice quiz mapped directly to the content of Corgi Chronicles

Published by Pember Diamonds — Pembroke Welsh Corgi Kennel

You have read the book. You have watched the videos. You have worked through the training sessions. But how much of it has genuinely stuck — and how much can you confidently apply in your day-to-day life with your Corgi?

That is exactly the question the Corgi Chronicles Chapter Self-Assessment was built to answer. Free, available directly from the Pember Diamonds website, and designed for real Corgi owners rather than academics, this interactive tool invites you to test your knowledge chapter by chapter against the content of Corgi Chronicles: A Training Guide for Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis by Morgan Heeler-Davies.

Whether you are a first-time Corgi owner still finding your feet, an experienced handler wanting to sharpen your knowledge, or a breeder preparing new puppy families for success, this assessment gives you an honest and structured picture of where your understanding is strong, and where it has room to grow.

What Is the Corgi Chronicles Self-Assessment?

The self-assessment is a 10-chapter multiple choice quiz mapped directly to the content of Corgi Chronicles. Each chapter of the book has its own set of 20 questions, giving 200 questions in total across the full programme. It is not a single sitting exercise. You work through chapters at your own pace, completing one when you are ready and returning whenever you have time. Your progress is tracked throughout, with a score badge appearing on each chapter card once you have completed it.

Built to Test Knowledge, Not to Be Gamed

This is worth saying plainly, because not all multiple choice assessments are created equal.

The questions in this tool were constructed with care. Every question has four answer options. All four options are written to be approximately the same length and the same grammatical structure — because if the correct answer is noticeably longer or more detailed than the others, it gives itself away. That is lazy question design, and it does not serve you.

More importantly, the three wrong answers for each question are not obviously silly. They are plausible. They represent common misconceptions, partial truths, or the kinds of errors that come from a surface-level reading of the material rather than a genuine understanding of it. If you have not read the relevant chapter carefully, the distractors are designed to be convincing.

The answer positions are also deliberately balanced. The correct answer lands at position A exactly 25% of the time, B exactly 25%, C exactly 25%, and D exactly 25% — with no run of the same letter appearing more than twice in a row within any chapter. Guessing the same letter for every single question will score you exactly 25% across the whole test. There is no shortcut. The only path to a strong result is understanding the material.

Why this matters

A tool that can be passed by guessing teaches nothing and measures nothing. The design of this assessment ensures that a good score reflects genuine knowledge — knowledge you can actually apply with your Corgi.

How the Tool Works: Step by Step

Step 1: Enter Your Details

The welcome screen asks for your name, your Corgi’s name, their age, and their gender. This personalises every result you receive. Your Corgi’s name and pronouns appear throughout the feedback, making the experience feel specific to your dog rather than generic.

Step 2: Choose a Chapter

You are taken to a grid showing all ten chapters. Each card displays the chapter number, title, and the page range in the book. A progress bar across the top shows your overall completion. Completed chapters carry a grade badge showing your score and letter grade at a glance. You can work through chapters in any order, though following the book’s sequence is recommended as the content builds progressively.

Step 3: Answer 20 Questions

Each chapter presents twenty questions on a single scrollable page. Read carefully, select one answer from four options, and work through all twenty before submitting. There is no timer. You can review your answers before you commit. When you are ready, click Submit Chapter.

Step 4: Review Your Result Card

Your result card contains considerably more than a score. Every chapter result includes:

  • Your raw score out of 20 and your percentage
  • Your letter grade and level name
  • A paragraph of personalised commentary matched to your grade
  • A Strengths section — every question you answered correctly, listed by topic
  • A Focus Areas section — every question you got wrong, each showing the correct answer
  • Three specific, actionable recommendations for your next steps
  • For scores below 60%, a direct link back to the chapter in Corgi Chronicles to guide your revision

Step 5: Continue or View Your Final Results

After each chapter you return to the grid and choose the next. Once all ten are complete, a View Final Results button appears. Your cumulative result shows your total score across all 200 questions, an overall letter grade with commentary, a chapter-by-chapter breakdown highlighting your strongest and weakest areas, personalised recommendations, and a link to Corgi Chronicles.

The Reset button — visible in the top right corner of every screen from the chapter grid onward — clears your results and returns you to the front page whenever you are ready for another attempt.

When you answer a question incorrectly and then immediately see the correct answer, something useful happens in the brain

Why Self-Testing Works

There is a well-established body of research on what cognitive scientists call the testing effect: the finding that actively retrieving information from memory strengthens retention far more effectively than re-reading the same material passively. When you answer a question incorrectly and then immediately see the correct answer, something useful happens in the brain. The correction lands in the context of a genuine attempt — a moment when your brain was actively predicting an outcome. That makes it memorable in a way that reading the same sentence in a book does not.

This is the mechanism the Corgi Chronicles Self-Assessment is built on. When you work through a chapter’s twenty questions, you are not just checking what you remember. You are actively consolidating the material that will stick with you when you are working with your Corgi and need to respond in the moment — not after looking something up.

For Corgi owners specifically, this matters because the knowledge in the book has direct daily application. Understanding why your Corgi leans against you, what a stiff high tail actually means, how the timing of a reward affects whether the behaviour is reinforced, why the socialisation window cannot be recovered once it has passed — all of this plays out in real interactions. The better you hold the material, the more naturally you respond to what your dog is communicating.

What Each Chapter Covers

The assessment follows the full arc of Corgi Chronicles. Here is the knowledge territory covered in each of the ten chapters:

  1. Understanding Corgi Communication (pp. 9–24) — tail and ear positions, vocalisation types, the Corgi Lean, stress indicators, confidence signals, and overstimulation signs
  2. The Science of Connection (pp. 25–32) — dopamine and memory consolidation, developmental windows, neuroplasticity, reward timing, motivational variation, and the reward map
  3. The Art of Canine Communication (pp. 33–43) — calming signals, play bows, whale eye, piloerection, distance-increasing signals, and whole-body signal reading
  4. Navigating Corgi Behavioural Challenges (pp. 44–48) — herding instinct management, reactivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety, the threshold concept, and positive reinforcement
  5. Unleashing the Potential of Corgis (pp. 49–57) — shaping, canine sports, enrichment, proofing, confidence building, and the foundation of advanced training
  6. The Heart of the Human-Corgi Bond (pp. 58–64) — attachment, oxytocin, earned trust, the impact of unpredictability, and quality time versus physical proximity
  7. Adapting to Changing Landscapes (pp. 65–71) — life stage transitions, adolescent regression, senior adjustments, new environments, and the principle of adaptive ownership
  8. Strategic Approaches to Canine Excellence (pp. 72–77) — goal-setting, training structure, reinforcement schedules, plateaux, and the growth mindset
  9. Health, Nutrition and Training Intersection (pp. 78–95) — IVDD, PRA, obesity, dental health, hydration, joint nutrition, and training modifications for health conditions
  10. Ongoing Learning and Advanced Concepts (pp. 96–99) — canine cognition, concept training, cooperative care, force-free methods, and the lifelong learning mindset

Who Benefits Most from This Tool

The assessment is designed for anyone who owns, breeds, or works with Corgis and takes that responsibility seriously. It is particularly valuable for:

  • New Corgi owners who have read Corgi Chronicles and want to confirm their understanding before applying it
  • Experienced owners who want to identify blind spots or areas they absorbed less thoroughly
  • Puppy buyers preparing to collect a Pember Diamonds puppy, who want to arrive informed and confident
  • Partners and family members who share the dog’s training and want to align their understanding
  • Breeders who recommend the book to their clients and want a structured follow-up tool to reinforce the learning

Four Reasons This Tool Delivers Real Value

  • Honesty. Because the distractors are plausible and the answer positions are balanced, your result reflects genuine understanding — not luck or pattern recognition.
  • Retention. Active recall through self-testing consolidates knowledge far more durably than passive re-reading. What you engage with here stays with you.
  • Precision. Rather than a vague sense that you should “read more about body language”, your Focus Areas tell you exactly which questions you missed and what the correct answers are.
  • Direction. Every chapter result points you to the specific pages in Corgi Chronicles that deserve your attention. No re-reading the whole book — just the parts that matter right now.

Add to this that the tool is free, requires no registration, works on any device, and can be retaken as many times as you like.

A Note on Corgi Chronicles
